Please follow the Crown Jewels

Thank you so much for making our community on Lipstick and Lollypops so much fun! I’m very excited to be moving to a new site at Chicago Now: http://www.chicagonow.com/lipstick-lollipops. The focus is the same so I hope you’ll take a second to join me there and like my new Facebook fan page.  The look and feel is a little different, but just more user friendly content. They also require a blogger name or alias.  Since Chicago Jewels was taken and I am the woman of a home of three men/boys, 🙂 that makes me the Crown Jewels…  I also  borrowed the idea from an over-the-top guy my husband and I met last week on vacation who said everyone called his sister the “Crown Jewels.” In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful weekend!

Almost the weekend…

May you have a restful and fun weekend. It’s starting to feel like summer as we’re almost there… That means outdoor festivities for singles and families alike. For example, this weekend is Chicago Kids Day (details below). Its mission is to create a fun and entertaining way to educate and teach kids about health and safety. Speaking of entertainment, take a look at the viral Men Experience Simulated Child Birth if you haven’t already seen it for a laugh… Please reply with comments to share what you’re up to this weekend and other family or any other type of festivals. Miss these boys

Miss these boys

New Moms usually dread returning to work. Their transitions may be charged with sadness or even guilt, which can be intensified with sleep deprivation. In fact, more than one of my girl friends “lost” her car when she parked it for work in the morning. They called the police hysterically crying since they were convinced someone stole it, but in reality they forgot where they parked it. The police found my friends’ lost cars in every instance on a different street than where they swore they parked it. As today is my first day back to work, I thank God my husband is dropping our boys off in the morning at my Mom’s and parking our car in their garage! And, THANK YOU, Mom!

Returning to work after my second maternity leave is bittersweet. I’ll miss my boys dearly, especially the sweet sound of our oldest, Andrew, regularly calling, “Mama, MAMA, MOMMY!” Ok, I’m getting a little teary thinking about how sweet his everything is – cuddles and cries alike. One of my favorites is how when I’m breast-feeding our sweet baby, Patrick, Andrew will also curl up with us. AND, I’ll miss the sweet smiles of our precious Patrick who is constantly more and more aware at three months. I hope I don’t miss hearing too many of his new sounds for the first time…

FAMILY FUN

Travel through time on every mode of transport as you learn all about the world around us at one of Chicago’s best jewels, the Museum of Science and Industry. In fact, Life magazine voted it one of the top 15 museums in the world. My Mom and childhood friend Liz and I took our boys and her nephew, Elian (now our oldest’s good friend), there last week. We first wondered at the museum’s extraordinary architecture against the rugged beauty of the lake and open panorama of the city’s skyline. It is nestled in the South Side’s Hyde Park neighborhood, home of President Obama. It was a special treat for me as a child and now as an adult to visit. My two-year old son now gets lost in their planes, trains and automobiles and awesome kids’ room – Idea Factory. Below are highlights geared toward everyone from our boys under three to adults from every walk of life.
